On This Day in History

January 21st

  • On this day in 1793 King Louis XVI lost his head.
  • Vladimir Lenin croaked in 1924.
  • George Orwell died in London in 1950.
  • President Jimmy Carter in 1977 issued an unconditional pardon to hundreds of thousands of draft dodgers from the Vietnam war.
  • In 2010 the Supreme Court rules in Citzens United v. Federal Election Commission that the Federal Government cannot restrict corporations from spending money in elections.    And in 2012 over $933 million in new donor spending.
  • Barack Hussein Obama is reinstalled as President of the United States and will once again say lofty things and ignore them during his final term.    Crocodile tears will be shed and the sound of the Constitution being shredded will be heard in the background as Bette Midler sings "Dance, Dance, Dance, Till  You Drop".
  • And on this day we are also celebrating Martin Luther King Day and we'll be asked to ignore the content of the President's character and to instead focus on the color of his skin.

    1. Had I chose to say "inaugurated" then you would have been correct. But I said "installed" and that correctly reflects what happened today. No you stand corrected.

  2. Hmm. If you're being asked to focus on the color of the President's skin, you may want to switch stations. You're watching something odd.

    1. Maybe I watch too much CNN and MSNBC. They focused on his skin color a lot. Hugs and happy Presidential hump day.

  3. My fried green tomato goddess, to remark upon how the USA elected an African-American not once, but twice, in landslide victories, in the dawn of the 21st century, isn't a comment on his skin color, it's a comment on OUR character, and his. God bless the USA! Hugs, babe!

    1. Unfortunately he is neither black nor white since he is equal parts of all. He is a liar and a divider and deserves nothing but contempt. I am thankful that his reign of terror has a true end in 1460 days.

  4. I find this post unfortunate. A lot can be said about the Presidents politics but his character, Lucky we live in a free country and you can say whatever tickles your fancy :-)

    1. Anyone who supports his character knows not what he has actually done. He is a man who says one thing and practices another. In all forms, he is a hypocrite and a liar. Those are not character traits one can appreciate. Those are ones to loathe.
