I have historically
supported the police on a wide range of actions, but must distance
myself with this latest charade with the gunman in California.
The police response
was hysterical from day one and was laughable and insulting to the
Constitution.
Yes, even perps
have rights. And the day that we think the
police are above the law and have no duty to administer their jobs
in a method consistent with Constitutional protects for one perp
is the day NONE OF US HAVE ANY PROTECTIONS.
I simply do not
find this reaction by the police to be proportional nor anything
than a hysterical and emotional response. What
made this situation special for police is because they were
singled out - their families and friends were
threatened. And somehow this makes the crime far
worse than if one of us or our families had been
threatened. Across the nation average citizens
have faced far worse shootings without this much concern from
police.
I find the
perpetrator to be a piece of human debris and find him to be a
disgusting person. But you know what, even pieces of
shit deserve Constitutional protection and to have their situation
adjudicated through all judicial means available. I
have no problem sending this jerk to a table where he'll be
strapped down and his body pumped full of chemicals to snarf his
life out and to send his soul to Satan!
Make no mistake -
the police had only one possible outcome in mind with this
situation - this perp was going to die - whether in a gun battle
or in some other way. There was no way the police
would have considered an outcome that would have allowed him a day
in court!

However, the police have no right
to combine all steps in the process of judicial proceedings into a convenient
one that makes the outcome sooner rather than later and to make their job the
easiest way possible.
The actions of the police here
were reprehensible to the highest order. If we accept that this
guy, after killing ONLY four people, should be summarily executed by whatever
means are "necessary" to end this standoff as soon as possible, why
not bomb banks with robbers inside? Why not use bunker
busters to kill the kidnapper who stole a child off a bus?
In the Northern Virginia area where innocent CIVILIANS were picked off a few
years ago by the beltway sniper, why not use a neutron bomb on the area to
ENSURE the perpetrators were all killed? Why even bother
taking efforts to resolve the situation if your emotional response is going to
be to kill the perp and to hell with his rights? After all, he
allegedly killed a couple of police officers and just the assumption he had is
fine enough to snarf him out!
It is understandable that the
police now think they can kill Americans without due process at home since our
President feels he can kill Americans overseas without due process on the
supposition of being a terrorist. An actual terrorist in
today's eyes will soon dumb down to a suspect or to one person who is overseas
that protests too loud about the mediocrity of our leadership and as a result
deserves death because he is a verbal terrorist.
