Updated at 11:43 a.m. ET from NBC News: The Boy Scouts of America said Wednesday it needed "more time for a deliberate review" of its policy banning gay Scouts and leaders, delaying a decision on the controversial membership rules that have dogged the private youth organization in recent years.

"In the past two weeks, Scouting has received an outpouring of feedback from the American public. It reinforces how deeply people care about Scouting and how passionate they are about the organization," the organization said in a statement.

"After careful consideration and extensive dialogue within the Scouting family, along with comments from those outside the organization, the volunteer officers of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Executive Board concluded that due to the complexity of this issue, the organization needs time for a more deliberate review of its membership policy."

Further investigation into this policy review is the potential that female scouts will be included - not only just gay males.   What has the Boy Scouts of America taking so long to decide either is whether this will cause a shortage of Scoutmasters as the appeal to be a Boy Scout leader has seemingly been to have access to an endless supply of young males.

"Including females will make it that much more difficult for me to do my job," said Letcher McFingers.  "I'll have to be very careful that I don't get a McFish rather than a McSausage if you catch my drift.  I have fish at home when I return to my wife but I can't get enough sausage anywhere with things getting all predatory on guys like me."
