Anyone who knows me
knows that I am no Ellen Degeneres fan.
I know her
mainly as a comedian who I just don't find is very funny at all.
Well, let me say I
DON'T find her funny - period.
I know she's a
lesbian and I'm not moved by anyone's sexual
orientation. I'm not just gay - I'm a person who just
happens to love the same gender. So I really
don't care what anyone else considers themselves nor do they get
bonus points from me for being same gender attracted.
Over the past month
I have seen more and more about Ellen and her talk show and have
watched a few clips as a result on youtube. The
show is good enough.
I generally loathe
day time talk shows since they all tend to try to out Oprah
Oprah. And no one puts on such a fake persona as Oprah
- a greedy cow that is arrogant and to be loathed.
I've seen her show and she thinks she is all that and a train load
of chips. She'll claim she's giving away things when
they are really being given away by the companies on the
show. I remember the 60 Pontiac G6's Oprah said she
gave away and it was all Pontiac that was doing the
giving. Oprah was trying to fool people into thinking
she was being the one who stroked the checks for 60, $20k
cars. Well she didn't. And that was the
end of me considering Oprah to be anything more than a fraud.
Like I said, I have
no reason to even venture into the day time talk show world
anymore and really have no need to discuss Ellen in a positive
light.

But I
have to say, my parents watch Ellen every day and they are in
their 70's and my Mom doesn't care if she's gay - she says she's
cute - and my Dad who is as picky as I am also likes her.
I was
floored.
So I
figured if my parents could stand her show, maybe I could watch
one show just to see if I could set aside my disdain for her lack
of humor long enough to try to enjoy the show.
That
one day has turned into "as often as possible".
I must
say that Ellen is by far the best day time talk show host I've
ever seen. I've seen Oprah, Sally, Rikki, Phil
Donahue, Merv Griffin, and that smarmy Katie whom I'd like to
punch in her face.
But
Ellen.... she's endearing, witty, engaging, fun, doesn't wear her
gayness on her sleeve, and really seems to care about her audience
and other regular people. I just finished
watching a clip of her giving a waitress who paid for two meals
for soldiers a check for $10k and then noticed that she, through
Hyundai, then gave the lady a new Hyundai!
So I
want to say to Ellen that I'm very impressed with your talk show
and wish you 1700 more shows. You are one hell of a
nice person and you are the best at what you do. You
might not be as probing as Donahue or as ass-kissing like Oprah,
but you have a show that brings out the best of you and as a
result it makes you the best show that I've ever seen in
that. Congrats!
