And then I had a flash that chilled me to the bone.
Our event security is so flawed that it really is nothing but a human speed bump to a larger attack.
Let's first look at what happens at events. You have to go through a screening. You get frisked, your bags are checked, and you are scrutinized and when you are declared non-threatening, you are allowed through.
The one thing about security checkpoints is that they cluster people together. Prior to the admission through the gate, you are co-mingled with other people who could look quite harmless - but are not. So what happens if prior to the checkpoint, a lone wolf decides to clear a path for more of his comrades and blows himself up in the pre-check que? Partners two and three are then set to clear the checkpoint itself by eliminating everyone who could impede their third, fourth, etc level attackers.
Carefully chosen time would have had many people allowed into the event but with enough potential victims stuck in que as to make this one bloody hell of a situation. Those in the que are sitting ducks. And once they are removed and the first level of checkpoint security is blown to bits, the other attackers simply walk in innocently - maybe even shrieking in fear to get away from the carnage - impersonating victims - but they manage to get inside the event before security tries to put a bandage on the blown security checkpoint.
Now the innocent looking lone wolves are going wherever there are crowds - and one by one they take out those crowds.
Meanwhile some lone wolves linger at the exit of the event to seal the deal.
Honestly, I never even thought about security like this. And this should make you avoid any event where you have to wait to get in. It doesn't matter if the audience is outside of the fence when they are blown up - it is simply too easy to remove hundreds of lives from this planet by ignoring the event first - go after the security and the que - and then proceed.
