A police officer's job is not an easy one.
A federal agent in the FBI has a thankless job.
And I fully respect them for the difficult job that they must do.
But these law enforcement agents and agencies have NO RIGHTS.
All Constitutional Rights specified are solely those of citizens. We are guaranteed our rights via our birth and as citizens of this country and no one can trample those rights. No one. Should we feel our right to liberty and to speech or to practice our religion freely or to freely exercise our contempt for this government, then we are bound and obligated to practice those rights and to kick back any attempt to steal those rights from us.
Law enforcement agencies have no right to speed up their job - there are no constitutional shortcuts that law enforcement is born with when they put on a badge that gives them the easiest way to do their job. There are, instead, a multitude of obstacles that law enforcement must face that they are obligated to adhere to, like it or not, that should impede at every turn their ability to do their job quickly, easily, and with a path of least resistance.
In short, law enforcement should bear all the burden to overcome Constitutional obstacles instead of citizens being compelled to surrender our God given rights. Even as I respect law enforcement for what they have to endure, I also compel them to face that you are owed jack with regard to compliance with your requests unless you seek those requests through the judicial channels that hold our rights higher than your desire to speed things up and to make your job easier.
I am first and foremost a great grandchild of liberty - having roots back in this country that linger into the 1680's. I have a historical obligation - a genetic one - to push back at any attempts by lazy and self-righteous badge flippers to get an ounce of my life. As a Capital L Libertarian, I loathe the ground that the smug law enforcement people seem to think that they are owed preference to invade our liberty and our privacy.
In the recent case of Apple against the badge flippers at the FBI, I fully supported Apple's fight for our privacy. I don't give a flying monkey's ass if there were a possible terrorist threat that could be gleened from perving on the phone from California. Until law enforcement gets off its lazy ass and does its job to prove such a threat exists, then speculating on an impending threat does not give justification to invade personal liberty and privacy. Law enforcement seeks to establish that once it finds what it is looking for, that that establishes a grandfathered justification for the search - the invasion of privacy. In doing so, law enforcement - under its cowardly and lazy current self righteous persona, seeks to fast forward to a conclusion that it reaches through specious logic, and then when they find something, they then use the ends to justify the Constitution fucking and individual rights raping. Instead of doing their jobs and establishing a significant case and then taking the time and energy to convince a judge that a threat exists, these lazy assholes in the FBI sought to force the easiest way into an iPhone because their agency is incompetent on technology.
We now sit here after the fact - the FBI found someone that they could pay to do their dirty work - to crack the phone - and there is now an eerie silence. Could it be that all the bluster and Constitutional Rights dry humping that they were ready to undertake were all for naught, and to hell with the rest of our safety on our digital devices.
I am spurred here in this rant because the UK is ready to undertake the horrific action of forcing technology makers to announce their advances before they come to market so that the police will have the backdoors and means to sneak into our technology without benefit of one court order or judical review.
And since our American politicians are smitten with doing things the way the rest of the world does, then it cannot be too far of a stretch that some American hating Progressive or Neo-Communist won't decide that the UK way is going to be our way and the Constitution is not only gang raped, it is murdered via a hate crime on liberty.
