An Amazon Prime Customer's Take on "Prime Day"
I had the funds to pull the trigger on GREAT deals with products that fit my needs. I know the prices of such products that I'd look for and wasn't going to pay a penny more for anything.
You see, Prime Day, is not the ONLY DOG IN TOWN. Sales happen around the calendar and for certain products, there are BETTER times to shop than when the Digital Bozo decides to suck the oxygen out of the internet pathway.
I was one of the people who took a late lunch so that I could pounce on Amazon at 3 p.m. Monday and to try to find a bargain. There have been news stories about how Amazon was down. Well, that was not the case at 3 p.m.. I managed to get in and to surf the supposed bargains and for a few minutes things were nominal in the land of the flea market of the bald headed one.
And then, yes, the Amazon digital forest blocked visitors from going anywhere. By 3:05 p.m. you would as likely get an error message or an endless loop of the site going from one "click here" (or something similar). Essentially for the first 20 minutes you ended up in the Amazon ride where you went nowhere fast.
Who knew this would signal that Prime Day was a Dud of magnificent proportions?
Since I have an Amazon firestick that is now experiencing the built in overheating problem that has resulted in less and less operational time, I did pull the plug on the $19.95 (less than $20) price which saved me $20. It is very unlikely that I could obtain this product at this price in the time frame that I needed to rescue my wilting firestick in order to bridge the gap until I find the 4k smart tv at the price point with the features that I want. So I did buy ONE thing on Prime Dud Day.
There absolutely ZERO REAL DEALS on TV's during this event. Oh, sure, there were discounts, but compared to the start of the football season or during black friday or during even Christmas or Duper Bowl sales, there were NO DEALS. I'm sorry, discounting shit TV's is not a deal. If I wanted to buy something on your site from Best Buy, I'd rather go to the store and purchase it - having already endured horrific experiences with Best Buy and their shipping, I'd forgo any chance that I'd get to experience their shit service again.
Once the TV situation was dispensed with, I was looking for computer components (hard drives, memory, etc) and there were no deals of any importance; hell, Newegg was running specials that were better than Amazon (even though the specials there weren't all that great either).
I was surprised about how much shit was "on sale" - ordinary and worthless items that you'd be better off shopping at Walmart in person to obtain (or for those of you with your noses in the air and want to pay more, there is that red clown called Tar-GET).
This year was so overhyped that I could not believe how disgusting the pickings were here - products that had substantial reductions in price were garbage products.
And now there is the reality that Amazon Prime is going to $119 on my next renewal - I will evaluate whether I use shipping that much and how much it would cost to just pay for it and to get it at a slower pace; I don't use Amazon prime much other than for some videos; never for music; nothing else.
