He was an actor during the Golden Age of Hollywood who had leading men who often masked their true selves in order to keep their jobs. While we lament today not being able to hold the hands of the man we love, men like Tab hid their gay persona and often were surrounded with beards that staved off the inquiries of the media. Young gay men cannot possibly grasp the nature of how being gay was a real "disgusting" action in the eyes of society. You young gay men cannot possibly understand how life was before the advent of the 1960's and the social turmoil and true acts of sacrifice for pioneers in the gay community.
Tab Hunter may have not been a pioneer in advancing gay rights, but he nonetheless took actions to express his homosexuality during his second half of his adult life and for this we celebrate.
And there is no mistaking the significant male heat that he exudes. He went from acting to singing and then to performing as a gay man and living a life of thirty some years with his lover.
It is thus that I offer this 24 hour celebration of all things Tab.
