Have you ever wondered "why?"
How is it that Apple has gotten so large by actually doing everything to stay small.
The genius of Apple, according to the prophets that worship the bitten apple, is that it is superior to anything out there. Perhaps there is something about intentionally being backwards to what Windows offers. I'm surprised that the on off switch of an Apple really isn't an off on switch.
Some lovers of Apple claim that Apple is a glorious helper in bringing technology to the masses.
Admission, however, has a twice the price of competition. For the great assistance to humanity that Apple is, it nonetheless is just another greedy company - selling products at profit margins that would make Exxon blush with envy.
Apples really aren't apples. Not these days. Computers are no longer Apple anything other than in the pencil dick thickness claims. Components are increasingly just something you can get elsewhere - made elsewhere - and found on competitors' products. Apple sues Samsung but buys screens. Dell uses the same aluminum and the same vendor to build its pencil dick thin lightweight laptops.
Perhaps the ONLY area that Apple really innovated was the smartphone - but it has long ceded its supremacy to other companies - and in tablets, the great iTampax is no longer the best you can buy.
I marvel at the ludicrous nature of Apple that shuns allowing "invented elsewhere" software to be installed and having near iron-fisted control of what can be installed on apple products. Apple maintains this aroma of a supreme dog stool that only their shit is the bomb and what you can install on a Windows machine is just third rate.
To me the jerk that runs Apple these days, that gay fry Cook, really is insulting. He has the chance to leverage his company's greatness and to do great things with it. Apple tries to make itself the great savior of mankind while raping mankind at every turn - ripping off consumers at the time of purchase - intentionally making products obsolete the moment they are released - and abandoning its hardware with arbitrary and capricious operating system changes. It must be a great feeling to give away operating systems when you force your consumers to pay $1k just to get a working laptop that will function in today's world. Superiority is a wonderful thing - conning your customers into thinking the thinner you make something the better it is - meanwhile even the latest MacBook has performance intentionally throttled back compared to a comparable Dell. And yes, it was Apple's decision to intentionally use the same chips as others but to decrease their performance - because you'd not notice -the same way Honduh figured you would not notice that the new Civic a few years ago was intentionally cheapened - because you wouldn't notice.
Apple really has blown it - if its products were superior - it could have crushed Wintel - it could go toe to toe with Windows and Intel and build computers that the MASSES could buy and sell a shitload of them. Of course Apple is a profit driven company, but when you only manage to sell to 10% or so of the laptop segment with your laptops which are build with components found in Dell and Asus et al, you really aren't concerned about building the best - you just do enough to justify charging double for a tenth of an improvement.
Having test driven Linux Mint for a few weeks now, I was left noting the similarities of Linux to Apple's OSX - both being Unix based operating systems - and that Apple could have exploited having an operating system that looks and feels like Windows AND which also looks and feels like the ass backwards thing that is called OSX. Same basic operating system with a different flavor - a win for all.
If Apple technology is so superior, why not build products to price points that would kneecap mid-priced Windows systems? Windows makes its money - most of the time - in software - and if you introduce hardware that is affordable to the masses, you gut Windows by selling the hardware and giving away the operating system.
In closing, Apples have their benefits - as short-lived as they are - but in the long term, Apples become Grandma and Grandpa's computers - just like Oldsmobile and Buick disappeared for the buying consideration of millions. And when Apple soon finds itself as having to introduce another gimmick like the watch just to increase revenue, it will become a trinket producer as its main core of products become obsolete. You can only get a laptop or tablet so thin - being a piece of paper has its limits - how little weight can you really make a case for in a buying decision? Will a lughead who ditched windows feel the difference between 1.1 pound and 1 pound?
And with profits that are greater than anything ever conceived, how is Apple really improving our lives? Built overseas robs us of jobs - and it really is a wonderful thing when technology talent isn't even homegrown. About the only thing that Apple does here now aside from counting cash is hiring geeks to peddle the wares at Apple stores. And there are thousands that occupy the mothership to be in California - but one has to wonder how many are even citizens of the country?
